7 Tips to Increase Applications to your Job Post

Creating an effective job post is the first step for attracting talent and increasing inbound applicants.

Here are seven tips to increase your traffic:

1) Write an Engaging Title

The job title is essential as it's the first thing a prospective candidate will see.

Tips:

  • Clearly and concisely describe the role's technical name, level, and specialty.
  • Incorporating appropriate keywords within the post title will also help the job post surface in candidates' job search.

In the job post, you can also:

  • Select 'primary and additional roles' that coordinate with candidate search filters and our specific role terms. Make sure to add all reasonably applicable role terms, which help the job connect to more candidate searches.

2) Set Location Accurately

It is crucial to set your location correctly. Otherwise, candidates might miss your job post.

Tips:

  • Make sure to set your remote locations properly. When not filled out, you may miss applicable candidates. Please take a look at our guide for setting up your locations here.

  • Please be careful when setting up a job post to 'hire remotely anywhere.' You should only use this feature if you genuinely are interested in hiring from any location worldwide. While this means you may get many applicants, it will force you to sift through many non-matching candidates if you do not want to hire from anywhere. Instead, choose the countries/cities you want to hire from in the remote location list.

  • If you need help getting the desired applicant number, expand your locations to include commuter locations. Let's say you set New York City as your 'onsite' location, but you would accept workers who could reasonably commute to your office location. You may want to add 'New Jersey' and 'New York states' and even more specific city locations such as 'Jersey City,' 'Newark,' and 'Long Island,' to your location settings.

3) Include Salary

Our research has shown that compensation leads to more applications from qualified prospective candidates โ€“ increasing the match rate and reducing the time to recruit.

Make sure to add complete compensation information by following this guide.

Furthermore, if you don't include a salary with full-time and contract roles in our system, your job will have limited distribution so that they won't show fully in our job search.

4) Write a 'day in the life of' description of your role.

We've found that candidates want to know the day-to-day duties of a job. We've heard praise for job descriptions that, on top of giving the general descriptions of the role, describe what a full day in the role looks like because it allows them to understand other details that commonly get missed in a standard job description.

Outline:

  • Typical start times
  • Tool and technologies ( tech stack)
  • Key Responsibilities
  • Daily/weekly meetings, briefings, or standups
  • Style for communication. i.e., slack, email, reports, one-on-ones, group calls
  • Remote or onsite work culture
  • Collaborative or independent work styles
  • Task prioritization and framework ( agile, kanban, etc.)
  • Time flexibility and variability
  • Other unique details of the scope of the job.

5) Highlight Company Culture and Values

Candidates are increasingly interested in company culture. Sharing your values helps attract those who align with your mission.

Add to your post:

  • Remote, onsite, or hybrid work culture
  • Approach to PTO
  • Benefits
  • Team and individual contributor style
  • All hands or stand-up approaches
  • Company values and philosophy
  • Opportunities for mentorship and growth at the company
  • Any unique perks

6) Outline the Application Process

A straightforward application process helps manage candidate expectations and encourages them to follow through with their application.

Outline:

  • Amount of interviews
  • Who they will be meeting with during the screening process
  • Technical tests
  • Required presentations
  • Required documents
  • Deadlines
  • Turnaround time

7) Promote your job

Please promote your job to increase visibility in our job search and help speed up applications. It's an easy and effective way of encouraging applications. These act as job ads that target candidates through their profiles and searches to appear higher and more often in their job searches.
